When i was travelling in China last month, I was amazed to find my favorite store for "Everyday low prices" right smack dab in the middle of an entire country with everyday low prices everywhere! in fact, isn't everything in walmart US made in china?? its the reason we go there, to stretch our pocket books further.. but why do the chinese go there? i think its for the convenience of everything under 1 roof which wasnt that common prior to walmarts entry in the china market.
While wandering down the isles of this megastore, i was curious about the retail price of Hollywood movies and music -- especially since the same titles are available literally one block outside the door for $1 on the street (pirated of course). to my surprise, i discovered a wall of porn! not segmented by curtains or velvet ropes, but literally right above the children's movies... isn't this the same retailer that makes american magazine publishers change its covers to get shelf space in america's favorite family store??

Classic find right there... considering most of the stuff in our Wal-Marts are from China in the first place.
Way to stumble upon this one!
It's surprising to find that because porn is generally illegal in China. The street corner DVD sellers always keep the porno tucked away under a rock or hidden from plain view.
Hooray for porn!

What did you find relating to this question?
glad you asked.. i saw titles for about $3 from Warner Bros and other studios.. 3x the street price of the pirated version. as far as i can tell, the chinese weren't interested in paying an additional $2 for the cheap box and packaging the original version comes with. the whole packaged media business has to change because the chinese pay up for hardware (cell phones, computers, electronics, etc) -- the media should be bundled with other stuff (or services) that consumers value.. i've got some ideas here.. stay tuned!
i work at wal-mart in florida, unfortunately, and equally unfortunately, i've never been aroused in an american wal-mart. what a shame.
Those movies look like porn on the outside, but inside you will find content similar to hot dog the movie or a bad KTV bikini contest. Stories are a lot more interesting when they aren't true, but you got it up on Fark. High Ten
to those of you calling BS.. here's a close up of the shelf:

i'm actually not a walmart hater.. i just thought this was funny.. maybe i should publish a copy of one of these videos with bittorrent assuming i can get digital distribution rights
Using sex to sell? Yes. Porn? No. Some of the titles: "Human Modelling", "Sexy Slimming", "Regain Beauty After Birth"... As noted by others too, porn is definitely illegal in China.
Porn or not, this is still the same Walmart that thinks Glamour magazine is too smutty for the American public. For them to sell salacious DVDs—right above the children's section, no less—just because they can get away with it shows that their policy is inconsistent and hypocritical.
The movie covers may suggest it's porn, however in reality it is not. The laws on deceptive advertising are not strong in China...
well now you see that walmart is politically corect with the religious fanatics here in the states. They hate anything they find offense!!! Maybe we can open our eyes up to the enemies of reality the christian extremeists!!! Long live free choice---Doc
some of you seem to have watched these movies. i can't say whether these are hard core porn or not.. my guess is that its not hard core but probably more risque than anything you'd find in walmart USA
Ah... China. I spent seven months there last year and took a photo along a similar vein... check it out:

I'd be curious to know if the same employee-bashing (ie., slave wages, no benefits, dismissal if seen talking to a union rep) tactics are practiced in China and other countries that they get away with in the United states.

walmart china has unions now, so i hear, because china labor laws are more liberal than the us.. dont get me wrong, i'm not pro union.. there's a reason southwest is far more pleasurable to fly than united or american
1. Wal-Mart employees in China are NOT unionised. Wal-Mart has stated it will comply with Chinese Trade Union Law (which is NOT more liberal than US law; after all, it only allows one trade union federation - the ACFTU). Wal-Mart has done so in response to the ACFTU calling for the company to comply to Article 10 of TUL, which states that workers in any workplace with more than 25 employees have the right to form a trade union branch. Wal-Mart has simply said it will comply with this. This does NOT equate to unionisation.
2. There are no Wal-Mart's in Hong Kong. They did have stores here in the late 90s, but they left.
3. The photo is 100% from China (the mainland). Simplified characters and the name of the store - woerma - are a dead giveaway.
4. The DVDs on sale aren't porn, but in typical mainland style are salacious covers for music. The point is not that they're porn or not, but that in the US they would not be on the shelves. So it's still a nice shot.
One other thing: if you go to the Xinhua bookshops in China, you'll find heaps of family planning material (videos and DVDs included) for new couples. Many of them feature such covers too.
Last week in Canada I purchased a DVD in Walmarts' $5 bargain bin that I consider to be porn. Well that is if you consider a full camera view of a woman giving a guy a BJ porn. I mean the camera was about a foot away and she was holding it with her left hand and slowly drawing it in and out of her mouth. I e-mailed Walmart customer relations to register a complaint but they did not respond. The Dvd is "IN the CUT" starring Meg Ryan.
